Big Timber Fire DepartmentNew Fire 11Near the end of 2003, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded the Big Timber Fire Department funding to purchase a new brush truck for $125,000. FEMA would fund $112,500 of the purchase price, and Big Timber would cover the rest of the price through their truck replacement fund. The 4WD International truck chassis was ordered in the spring of 2004 and volunteers added the necessary parts and equipment until it was completed in December of 2004. When it was finished, the cost had reached $133,000 and local donations covered most of the extra cost over $125,000. The new truck will be named Fire 11, and having it as a first line vehicle will make it possible for the old Fire 11 to be moved to Melville for quick response to the northern part of the county. The Melville Fire Department is also well known for providing assistance throughout the county whenever they are called upon. The firefighters in Sweet Grass County would like to thank FEMA for making it possible to add another truck to their inventory to help protect the county from fires, and to all the local folks who donated throughout the years.
