August 18, 2007

The Hicks Park Fire received some rain today and humidity remained as high as 85% following the rain. This kept the fire smoldering most of today. This fire is still hot and red flag warnings are issued for tomorrow. Good progress was made on the portion of fireline nearest the road. Please check tomorrow's update for planned activities. (See below for links to updates)

We have reduced our hours and staffing in the Emergency Operations Center (932-3014). Hours will be from 9 AM - 5 PM daily. Please leave a message if needed. We'll call you back as soon as we are available.

August 17, 2007

Fire Chief Mark Stephens reported that light rain was falling in the vicinity of the fire at 3:45 PM today. Winds remain out of the southwest at 15-20 mph with gusts to 35. Even with the winds, the fire was still "laying down" due to the high humidity according to Chief Stephens.

The Emergency Operations Center will remain open from 9-5 daily. Contact us at 406-932-3014 with questions on travel permits or evacuation status. We have reduced our staffing, so please leave a message if there is no answer and we will call you as soon as we can (honest, we will call you back).

Evacuations from Clydehurst to Box Canyon are still in effect as are pre-evacuations from Clydehurst to Natural Bridge. The Main Boulder Road is closed at Natural Bridge, trip permits for residents in the pre-evacuated area can be obtained at the County Courthouse between 9 am and 4 pm.

Date Started: Sunday August 12, 2007                    Time of Release: 1045 hours, August 13, 2007

Cause: Unknown                                                        Size: About 1200 to 1500 acres

Location: The Hicks Park Fire is located approximately 43 miles south of Big Timber near Hicks Park Campground, on the east side of the Main Boulder Road. The fire burned through the Clear Creek drainage last night and was burning upslope to the east.

Expected Fire Behavior: The Hicks Park Fire is burning in heavy timber on steep slopes. Weather conditions could produce large growth today, predicted winds would push the fire to the south.

Steep terrain makes it difficult for firefighters to directly fight this fire. Structure protection for structures nearest the fire will continue today, structure assessment will begin today for structures north of the fire.

Evacuations: Clydehurst Church Camp (3319 Main Boulder Road) to Box Canyon. No one is permitted to be in this area.
